Session 3: Innovative Teaching & Learning Methods

Welcome this session of the CPC meta summer school development course!

Research has shown that innovative teaching methods and approaches can significantly enhance the learning process. During this session, a number of innovative teaching methods and online tools will be shared to give input on how you can make your summer school more engaging and interactive, be it on campus or online.

During this session, we will focus on the following topics:

  • Icebreakers
  • Engaging Teaching and Learning Activities
  • Effective use of Virtual Learning Environments (Moodle)
  • Gamification

After watching the PowerPoint Presentation, discuss with your team how you can make your summer school more engaging and interactive. In your discussion, please address the following questions for both an online and offline summer school models:

  1. What icebreaker would you like to include in your summer school? Please explain what goal your icebreaker will serve and how the icebreaker will be facilitated.
  2. Which Learning Activities from the Conversational Framework are the most relevant for your summer school? After selecting the most relevant Learning Activities for your summer school, please answer the following questions for these activities:
    • How will you make these Learning Activities interactive? Please specify, if any, what tools you would like to use.
    • Prepare an interactive learning activity – e.g. using gamification or one of the online tools that was discussed in the PowerPoint Presentation.
  3. How can you use gamification in your summer school to make your summer school more engaging and fun?
