I am passionated about to make visible the structures and mechanisms that reproduce social and economic inequality. Why? Because I believe that making visible the injustices are is the first condition that enables any possibility of change. This passion explains why my research agenda is centered around the question of how and to what extent social and economic inequalities, manifested among social groups, institutions and countries, are (re) produced in the scientific and higher education systems (see publications related here). At Rhodes University, I am one of the newest members of Centre for Higher Education Research, Teaching and Learning (CHERTL). Currently, I am primarily involved in the Postgraduate Diploma in Higher Education (PGDip HE) and the new doctoral program of Social Justice and Quality in Higher Education (I am teaching a module on social justice). In addition, I am working on a research project that aims to unpack the effects of gender, race and class in the process of formation and the career outcomes of academics in South Africa and Chile. My latest endeavor is to spread the word how practicing mindfulness can contribute to the well-being of graduate students.
