The resources are very valuable to both students and supervisors. They address critical needs in the research process, particularly in research conceptualization, execution and dissemination of findings. Again, the resources relating to predatory publishing are important, particularly with the increasing requirements for proof of publications before a degree is awarded, as well as, emphasis by institutions to meet certain publication performance targets. The MoU between supervisor and postgraduate may assist in addressing issues identified in some of cases discussed during the last zoom meeting.

All the online resources are very useful and relevant to PG students. In my context understanding the entire PG journey and process was crucial. Most especially, writing and scholarship development which starts with coursework, doctoral seminars (research proposal guidelines and development), supervisory support, supervision tracking and progress reporting (helpful in meeting deadlines) and collating research information to my study, all of which is geared towards a complete thesis.

@all, the Enhancing Postgraduate Environments Website as you might be aware was developed through the previous project (CPC’s predecessor) and as a team we very much consider it as continuing and to be added to, elaborated on resource. It would be a great opportunity to add materials or spin-offs from the CPC project to the EPE website. One could think of context specific materials but also about more generic topics that the EPE team might not have thought about but that would enrich the site.

Oh just side note:-), the EPE philosophy has always been: if you name it you claim it – meaning the development of the material automatically becomes your responsibility.
The team is very happy to assist you that process, welcome to the SPS/EPE/CPC family!

Chrissie! I like how one of the presenter (Sioux) puts it, “reading and writing are practices not skills”.

The EPE platform is just awesome!the resources are invaluable to both students and supervisors. In particular, I found resources on ‘transferable skills’ very useful. In my opinion, this is the epitome of module 2. The skills include: researchable, communication, project management, leadership, computer/IT and interpersonal skills. However I think the section on project management that covers security, bio-safety and ethics was glossed over. Perhaps this is because the presentations are skewed towards Humanity and Social sciences. It would suffice to have something on ethics or biosafety in Natural Sciences, for instance, ethical issues in research touching on humans and animals experiments.

I found the resources to be helpful and very informative for me as I am currently reading for my Phd proposal.I will also share these with my honors students. It was quite interesting to note that when you write for the first time one should note be worried much about getting the correct draft and editing right.I would confess that this is one of mistakes that I do when I write. The three steps to follow as suggested was quite informative for me (pre-writing,draft and editing).

The EPE website has a number of great resources. What I like is that they are ‘bite-sized’ in terms of being short. This means that you can ‘dip in’ and out of resources (both supervisor and student). While this means that they can’t address the issue fully (e.g. practical ways of going about the actual writing of the thesis), they start the conversation which can be continued and teased out in more detail in the supervision space. I think all of the resources play some role in helping make clear what the common issues are in postgraduate research.

The website is great! It can work as a reference point to both the supervisor and PG students in enhancement of knowledge. This online resource will definitely provide support to supervisors and postgraduate students. I am glad it is open to access by all.

The website is very helpful in understanding the PG process for both the supervisor and the student especially the academic writing and publication, identifying predatory journals, examination and assessment. The MOU template provides an crucial reference for supervisory support.

I found all resources useful for the students and the supervisors. i followed the predatory publishing which has been a major challenge in our institutions particularly that some PhD students sometimes submit their research work in such journal before approval of their supervisors since they are not interested in the quality but meeting the target of publishing for them to graduate

Super useful website, thank you! I especially liked the “guide to completing your research degree” overview, which I think can be a very handy resource for students deciding whether and how to embark on a degree or not, or students just starting out. I like that most of the material (particularly that directed at students) doesn’t replace the supervisor’s advice and inputs, but rather provides a broader overview that can serve as an anchor for student/supervisor discussion.

The website is great. very useful information for students as well as supervisors. All information was presented in simple and understandable form. We should provide such information to aspiring postgraduate students so that they make informed decisions before embarking on PG journey. the guiding steps from Orientation to careers are very important

The resources presented are very relevant and the research identity and conceptualization presentation developed by Ogujiuba Kanayo was particularly insightful. The lecture series has provided much needed knowledge for the stage at which I find myself in my PhD research project. It has stimulated me to further structure my work.

Great information here! I find all the 12 resources very useful not only in aiding the process of postgraduate supervision, but also in structuring my own reading and writing practices going forward. I would recommend a resource on writing for publication, which is something that many early-stage supervisors struggle with a lot.
